Podcast for English Class

Using podcast in English class

• Target students:  14-16 years old 
• Level:                  Pre_intermediate 
• Podcast 1051       Getting and Making Threats
• Goals:                  To learn new vocabulary and practice listening and speaking. 

Description the lesson: 

Activity 1: Warm-up: 

- Teacher provides the dialogue between Ruth and Carl. 

Ruth: I’m really glad you’re getting so much support from the public. Look at all of these bags of fan mail. 
Carl: Only about half of that is fan mail. The rest is hate mail. 
Ruth: Hate mail? Who would send you hate mail? 
Carl: Lots of people. People who are disgruntled write to me about their grievances. 
Ruth: Really? 
Carl: Don’t look so surprised. We’ve gotten bomb threats, and I’ve even received a few death threats. 
Ruth: Death threats?! Aren’t you worried about your personal safety? 
Carl: Not really. Most people are just venting and others are trying to intimidate me. I’m not going to buckle under just because I get a few letters. 
Ruth: But it only takes one mentally unbalanced person to carry through on threats. Have you considered getting a bodyguard? 
Carl: No, I don’t need any protection. I just need to keep plugging away and getting things done. 
Ruth: I finally know what to get you for your birthday. 
Carl: What? 
Ruth: A bulletproof vest. 

- Teacher will provide new vocabulary with the bold type to students by writing on the board. 

- Teacher lets students to practice reading words and translate into native language. 

Activity 2: Listen and practice.

- Teacher plays the conversation part to student. 

- Teacher asks students to work in pair and practice the conversation. 

Activity 3: Give the definition.

Hi, Everyone ! 

My name is Vanthala Souvanxay (Ham) 

I am from Lao People's Democratic Republic. 

I am English teacher in Faculty of Education, National University of Laos. 

Teacher's day Ceremony on October 7th. 

Currently, I am participating in the Brunei - US ELEP 2014. I feel very happy since I have known many colleagues from ASEAN countries. It is a great opportunity for me to gain new knowledge in order to strengthen my English methodology. I experience people as well as culture of ASEAN countries.
